Why did you decide to join Errigal?
Joining Errigal was a straightforward decision at the time. I had just graduated from university—completing my studies on a Thursday and starting work the following Monday. Several interviews had been arranged through the university, and Errigal stood out, not only for the opportunity it offered but also due to its proximity to home. It was an ideal fit both professionally and personally.
What does a typical day look like for you in Errigal?
Currently, a typical day involves a high level of coordination, meetings, and drawing or model reviews. This includes reviewing our current models to ensure work has been completed accurately, examining the federated model to confirm that our proposed systems do not clash with other trades, and verifying that drawing sheets are fully prepared and ready for issue.
What inspired you to pursue a career in this field?
When selecting my university course, I wasn’t particularly driven by a singular passion but was interested in two potential paths: 3D animation or Architectural Technology—primarily due to my interest in 3D modelling. As it happened, I received an offer for the Architectural Technology course first and accepted it without waiting for responses from the other applications.
What qualities do you think it takes to succeed in this industry, and why?
In my opinion, two of the most important qualities in this industry are time management and resilience. It’s essential not to take feedback personally—criticism of your work is not a reflection on you as an individual, but rather a professional assessment aimed at achieving the best possible outcome. Developing a thick skin helps maintain perspective and focus. Equally, strong time management skills are critical; being able to plan and meet deadlines ensures smoother workflows and significantly reduces stress.
What’s your favourite way to unwind after work?
At the moment, my main way to unwind is going to the gym. It’s a great outlet—being able to switch off, lift some heavy weights, and enjoy some light-hearted banter with others there. It provides a much-needed change of pace and helps clear the mind after a busy day.
